Why is it that art is presented so often in various and bizarre places? Shop windows, glass cabinets, offhand sites, and otherwise interesting spaces are commonly occupied by young artists to serve as nontraditional galleries. Openings in this context are also generally carried out in the spirit of smaller, closed communities. From a historical point of view, like the beginning of 20th century, we can connect these type of communities with the tendency to create artistic communities at that time. Nowadays, however, these activities are not really of interest for young emerging artists. Social overlaps of this kind of non traditional way of curating, for instance in the public space, bring up an important change in the reception of an artwork, and serve also as experimentation with the professional, and outside spectator about the limits of his or her abilities to understand the content. The activities of selected alternative galleries, connected with the project Czech Action Galleries will be reflected in this lecture.
